Sports Galore!  In Bemidji you can enjoy limitless year around outdoor and indoor recreation. Lakes and pines are the hallmark scenery in the Bemidji area providing miles and miles of lake, river and woodland routes to explore. Both the Paul Bunyan and Heartland Trails that provide paved routes for biking, hiking and rollerblading are close at hand. Golfers will find an abundance of top rated courses in the area. However, you will have to share the greens with whitetail deer, an occasional black bear and bald eagles soaring overhead. There are six golf courses within a thirty minute drive of Bemidji including the Bemidji Town and Country Club which hosts the annual Birchmont Golf Tournament.  Bemidji also supports a wide variety of sports for youth including baseball, soccer, basketball, curling, skiing and swimming with a great many top notch facilities for these sports.

WHEN THE SNOW FALLS...   Trade in your boat, bike and four-wheeler for skis and snowmobiles when the white flakes begin to fall. We have one of the largest concentrations of snowmobile and cross country ski trails in the state.  And don’t forget Bemidji’s Buena Vista Ski Area. It is north central Minnesota’s premier downhill ski area with 5 chairlifts to speed you to the top of the Continental Divide.

If hunting and fishing is your passion, Bemidji has a long history catering to those needs. Area lakes and woods, much of it in public ownership, are filled with an abundance of game. The surrounding lakes provide record-breaking lunkers on a regular basis with some of the widest variety of game fish in the state. Duck and deer hunting are longtime Bemidji traditions in the fall with area woods offering plenty of game.

Indoor recreation activities are available at Bemidji State University’s Gillett Rec Center as well as at Bemidji High School. In the winter, Curling is the celebrated sport in Bemidji. We are the home of both the US Mens and Womens Olympic Curling Teams.  The Pete Fenson Rink brought home the bronze metal in Olympic competition in Torino, Italy.
