Education

The future of any community rests on the value that it places on education. The Bemidji area greatly values education as shown by its past and current investments in educating its people from pre-school to senior citizens. Bemidji is the Regional Education Center for northern Minnesota. In addition to having one of the most dynamic and successful K-12 school systems in the state, Bemidji serves as home to Bemidji State University, Northwest Technical College, Oak Hills Christian College and Concordia Language Villages.

Within a short distance you will also find Red Lake Nation College, White Earth Tribal College and Leech Lake Tribal College. Bemidji also has three parochial schools and three charter schools…Schoolcraft Learning Community, Trek North High School and Voyageurs Expeditionary High School.

Collectively, these schools represent an impressive array of educated talent in staff and students that help to create a collegiate feel in the Greater Bemidji Area. They further offer both traditional and unique educational opportunities to students as well as adult learners and businesses that want customized training for their employees. Students also serve as part time workers for area employers as well as provide an excellent cadre of interns for area businesses and organizations. They come equipped with the up-to-date technical skills and a knowledge base that area employers find absolutely essential in a changing and competitive workplace environment. Area businesses also have the opportunity to pick and choose from among the top graduating students in a broad array of programs.

The number of educational institutions certainly has a direct impact on the quality of life in the Bemidji area especially when it comes to cultural, sports and recreational opportunities and activities. Collegiate sports, jazz concerts, theatre performances and art galleries are all a part of the daily life of someone who lives in Bemidji. Those activities extend to all age levels for both spectators and participants.
